CONVENTION MEMO
TO: OTA MEMBERS
FROM: Kim Kaplan, K-Limited Carrier, Ltd.
Ed Donovan, Marvin Johnson & Associates
DATE: July 9, 2009
As Co-Chairs of the 2009 Ohio Trucking Association Annual Convention, we’d like to invite you to participate in this year’s event. We know how tough it is right now – both from the industry side, as well as from the allied side. That’s why your 2009 convention committee has put together a short, affordable educational program for you to ‘feast’ on! These topics vitally important to you.
This year’s theme is “COME AND GET IT – A feast of ideas for tough times”. We are strongly encouraging you to do just that! COME AND GET IT! On hand will be Larry Ricke & Jim Liston from Ricke & Associates giving you valuable information about how to avoid the six common mistakes that could destroy your business and your future. This session is a MUST for both carrier and allied members. Jeff Davis, Vice President of Safety & Human Resources for Jet Express, Inc., will give us the very latest information on CSA 2010, FMCSA’s new carrier rating system. There are many new wrinkles that Jeff is going to address, so can you afford to miss it?
From the ATA side, we’ll have current Chairman, Shorty Whittington, and Chief Economist Bob Costello. They’ll share with you what’s happening on the national side, as well as the most current trucking economics forecast.
Anne Ferro, tapped to be the next FMCSA administrator, has been invited to come share her views on what her top issues will be once confirmed. You’ll also get an overview of the most pressing legal issues facing our industry, as well as having the opportunity to sit down face-to-face with some of Ohio’s legislators in round-table discussions.
Another hot topic for both carriers and allied industry members is the All States Insurance issue. We’ll give you the most up-to-date information during this session, explaining why you might be exposed and how to eliminate that exposure.
Back by popular demand is our Allied Industry Exhibit. We’ve changed the display times to give everyone the best exposure. Exhibit space is limited – so register early to avoid being left out! Once again we’ll have our banquet on Monday evening, complete with honoring the recipients of our 2008 Fleet Safety Awards. Adding to the festivities Monday evening will be silent and live auctions to benefit TRUKPAC. We’ve invited a special, surprise auctioneer for your enjoyment! And, to end the evening, you’ll be wowed by the amazing magic of Martin Jarret.
Oh, and let’s not forget the opportunity to golf! You’ll have two opportunities to hit the sticks at Oglebay’s Trent Jones and Arnold Palmer courses. Combined with this ‘feast of ideas’ from our speakers, you’ll have the opportunity to share ideas with the people who are walking the same path as you. We’ve invited West Virginia Motor Truck Association and Toledo Trucking Association members to join us at our member price, and have also invited Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie and WVMTA President Janet Vineyard to stop by and say hi!
Don’t miss this event! Enclosed are the registration forms as well as the complete Oglebay brochure. Remember…..sleeping room deadline is JULY 31! We’ll see you August 30-Sept 1!
